The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.

Announcements & Reminders

Announcements and reminders from our Facebook feed.

Our Meetings

We meet every Monday evening from 7:00-8:30 at the Izaak Walton chapter house on highway 150 north of Vinton. Scheduled no-meeting dates are announced in advance at Troop meetings.

Meetings are canceled if the Vinton-Shellsburg school district cancels classes or dismisses classes early because of weather. Meetings will not be "uncanceled" if conditions improve - this causes too much confusion. If in doubt, Scouts should phone their patrol leader to verify the status.

In any event, Scouts and parents must always use their own best judgement as to whether it is safe for them to make the trip.

Our Outings

Since 1931, Troop 47 has helped teenage boys learn values and leadership skills by providing a variety of fun and challenging outdoor adventures. The Troop has monthly campouts year-round plus a week-long summer camp and a week-long "high adventure" trip each summer. Recent high adventure trips have been to locations such as Glacier National Park, the Colorado Rocky Mts and the Boundary Waters Canoe Access Wilderness.
